Disguising the Lies

02-11-2024Letter from the PastorFr. Don Kline, V.F.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Members of our society, and even members of our government, disguise an anti-life agenda by preaching about “reproductive freedom.” Tragically, this disguise is used scare people by concealing the truth and disseminating lies. This disguise often manifests in the form of misleading arguments, to which, I offer these thoughts for your prayerful consideration.

Disguise: pro-life laws prevent women from getting life-saving care in a medical emergency. Truth: every state allows timely and necessary care for pregnant women in a medical emergency. Notwithstanding such allowance, abortions conducted for life-saving care are rare. According to a study published in 2013 by the National Library of Medicine, 954 abortions at 30 U.S. abortion facilities, found that 6% of abortions were performed out of “concern for the patient’s own health.” Anti-life people attempt to use this striking minority of abortions to justify mass genocide. Pro-life people will hear, “what about the health of the mother?” You should ask two questions in return: (1) “what states currently withhold lifesaving care from mothers in medical emergencies?” and (2) “what about the 98% of healthy babies, with healthy moms, who are aborted for elective reasons?”

Disguise: the current administration doesn’t support abortion on demand. Truth: the current administration is the most pro-abortion administration in this nation’s history. The current administration has placed abortion at the top of its top agenda, even wanting to fund abortions with tax dollars. What is to stop this nation, and its states, to devolve into states like Michigan and Ohio, which place no limits on abortion – even on barbaric partial-birth abortions or abortions for minors without parental consent?

Disguise: the anti-life movement wants to keep the government out of the abortion issue. Truth: the government is highly involved in the abortion industry and the anti-life movement is calling for even more government regulations and interventions in the form of restrictive laws that fail to protect women and their unborn children. Even the so-called Women’s Health Protection Act goes beyond “codifying Roe” and expands abortion. Why do we need more laws and amendments to the constitution to protect abortion?

Disguise: pro-life people only care about mothers until the baby is born, abandoning them after the fact. Truth: 18 states currently fund life-affirming alternatives to abortion, and over 3,000 pregnancy resource centers and maternity homes nationwide serve women during pregnancy and long after their child is born. In 2022, pro-life centers provided over $350 million in services at no cost to the woman. Eight in ten Americans support pregnancy centers and agree our laws can protect both mother and child. How beautiful would it be if this nation focused on nurturing motherhood instead of stifling it?

Abortion is a popular campaign issue and anti-life groups are already promising to spend upwards of $140 million to defeat pro-life candidates. Most women who’ve had abortions would have rather kept their child if they had financial or emotional support. So why is the current administration making abortion a central focus?

These are just a few of many anti-life the disguises. It is important to remain vigilant and willing to promote life, especially the most vulnerable among us – the unborn babies. Catholics are obligated to promote the Gospel of Life, which is made manifest by God who is pro-life. Therefore, we must eagerly strive to align ourselves with God and His life saving Gospel.

We must be pro-life. We must serve mothers. We must save children. At this point in our nation’s history, standing idly by is not an option. It is critical for pro-life people to go on offense, to expose abortion as the intrinsically evil act that it is. Pro-life people must find ways to continue to offer lifeaffirming support for pregnant women . We love babies that are born and unborn. We love mothers and mothers who have had an abortion. We want to help anyone who has had an abortion. We want to end abortion. We want to save lives.

There are two events that I would like to invite you to consider participating in. The first event is on March 1st at 11:00 a.m. located Rally at Wesley Bolin Memorial Plaza followed by Arizona March for Life at 12:00 p.m. The second event is Arizona Rosary Rally on March 16th beginning at 3pm. It will be at Bolin Memorial Park 1700 W. Washington Street. Fr. John Lankeit is scheduled to be the keynote speaker at this event.

God Bless,

Prayer for the Unborn

Heavenly Father, in Your love for us, protect against the wickedness of the devil, those helpless little ones to whom You have given the gift of life. Touch with pity the hearts of those women pregnant in our world today who are not thinking of motherhood. Help them to see that the child they carry is made in Your image - as well as theirs - made for eternal life. Dispel their fear and selfishness and give them true womanly hearts to love their babies and give them birth and all the needed care that a mother can give. We ask this through Jesus Christ, Your Son, Our Lord, Who lives and reigns with You and Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever. Amen.
