Charity and Development Appeal

02-23-2025Letter from the PastorFr. Don Kline, V.F.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Like the early disciples, we, too, are a faithful community that seeks to love Our Lord with our whole hearts. We, too, are invited to be in close relationship with Jesus. We, too, have been called to a unique mission of bringing hope to the hopeless, comfort to the sorrowful, and love to the lost. Sharing your blessings, your gifts, and talents, brings the light of Christ to those who have known much darkness.

Our Lord is always inviting us to grow in faith. We also know as faithful stewards of God’s many gifts that faith without works is dead. As we read in James 2:14-17: “What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister has nothing to wear and has no food for the day, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, keep warm, and eat well,” but you do not give them the necessities of the body, what good is it? So also faith of itself, if it does not have works, is dead.” Our Lord is calling us to be a people of faith, but that faith includes effort, includes work. As disciples, we are people of faith and service. Without both, faith is dead!

We are blessed to belong to the Catholic Church that has as part of Her mission the call to serve one another with our God given resources. As disciples of Our Lord Jesus, we understand the value of coming together in charitable outreach and support. But serving Our Lord, as we serve one another, is not always easy because of personal preferences and even biases. Charity means we love one another, especially the poor and the needy as the living presence of Christ. Loving our brothers and sisters who find themselves on sidelines of life is a true reflection of who we are as people of faith and works.

Together we are called to invest our talents for the greater glory of God and the salvation of the world. Your generosity in years past has helped boost the Charity & Development Appeal to new heights each year. The Diocese of Phoenix is hoping to offer nearly $10,475,000 in grants to 70 organizations that help those in need throughout Arizona, including those that support women’s health and pregnancy services, homeless, veterans, unemployed, the elderly, youth, and seminarians. When you give to the Charity & Development Appeal you support the work that transforms the lives of thousands of people for the better. Together, we can put our faith into action. Together, we can do more than any one parish or person can do. Your love gives hope to so many!

For those who have not yet made a pledge, please do so today! These programs and services reach beyond the boundaries of any one parish. Support works of mercy in our Diocese. Make a pledge, fill out your donor card today or donate online at dphx.org/CDA, and be an instrument of God’s love and mercy. With your gift to the CDA, you heed Our Lord’s call to be an instrument of God’s mercy and you bring hope to the hopeless. Thank you for your generous support.

God Bless,

Fr. Don Kline
