Fall and Winter Feasts and Solemnities

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Peace and Joy in Our Lord Jesus! Here is a quick rundown of all the upcoming major Feasts and Solemnities:

Solemnity of Christ the King
Sunday, November 21
The last Sunday of the liturgical year. There is a plenary indulgence associated with this day.

Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception
Wednesday, December 8
A Holy Day of Obligation. The solemnity is observed from 4:00pm on December 7 through 11:59pm on December 8.

Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe
Sunday, December 12
The feast day of our Diocesan patroness. It falls on the third Sunday of Advent (Gaudete) this year and is omitted from the calendar. A votive Mass of the Blessed Virgin Mary may be celebrated on Saturday, December 11 prior to 4:00pm.

Solemnity of the Nativity of Our Lord (Christmas)
Saturday, December 25
Holy day of Obligation. Christmas outranks the Feast of the Holy Family and is celebrated from 4:00pm on December 24 through 11:59pm on December 25.

Feast of the Holy Family
Sunday, December 26
The Feast of the Holy Family is celebrated on Sunday only from 12:00am to 11:59pm. There are NO anticipatory Masses on the evening of December 25th. The Sunday Obligation is ful8illed by attending Mass on Sunday (calendar day)

Solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God
Saturday, January 1, 2022
Falls on a Saturday in 2022, so it is NOT a Holy Day of Obligation. The Solemnity is observed from 4:00pm on Friday, December 31 through 3:59pm on Saturday, January 1.

Solemnity of the Epiphany
Sunday, January 2, 2022
Epiphany is observed on Sunday, not on the traditional day of January 6. Epiphany is observed from 4:00pm on January 1 through 11:59pm on January 2.
