La Sagrada Familia
Tucked into the border of Mexico, in Mexicali, is our sister parish, La Sagrada Familia, The Holy Family. It is indeed the Holy Family that we call our own. This neighboring country has given us a real blessing in sharing its people in Christ. We, their northern friends, have given new hope, friendship and love to many. Some say, when you cross the border, "this is another world." Perhaps, but the hearts and minds of our friends there are much like ours. They are our "family" in another land and yet, so close.
Fr. Moises Olmos is the priest at La Sagrada Familia. He comes to us from the Diocese of Mexicali. He is very interested in the student education program and shows great joy in having St. Bernadette as their sister parish.
St. Bernadette strives to make a difference in our sister parish, and we have been successful. We have built a bridge from Scottsdale to Mexicali. This bridge has given our people the ability to reach out and be touched. Communication has opened doors for friendships. Students have been given the ability to attend school and look to the future. Medical and emotional support is being received through your generous donations.
We chose educating students as a means of support in La Sagrada Familia. The "Sponsor A Student" program was presented during Lent 1997. In the first year we sponsored 16 students in secondary and preparatory school and 2 in college. St. Bernadette made a difference in their lives. Now, in the academic year 2005/2006 we have 92 students in school. We welcome all parishioners to become part of this ministry.
Why has this been a success? YOU!!! You at St. Bernadette’s and others throughout the United States and Italy have given many young people a future.
