Cursillo
When was the last time you took a refresher course for your work, studied how to operate that new computer or attended a time management course? If you take time for a course to improve your work skills, why not take time to learn or re-learn some basics of your Catholic faith?
Cursillo (kur-see-yo) is a Spanish word meaning "short course" in what a Catholic community looks and feels like.
Cursillo begins on Thursday evening and ends on Sunday evening and is presented by a group of cursillistas (kur-see-yee-stas) and spiritual advisors who have met in formation for two or three months. Cursillo is not a retreat. There is nothing new taught during the three days: everything is basic Catholic knowledge. We talk about faith, Church, Sacraments and people who live God's plan. Cursillo is a movement of the Church, with its own method, that makes it possible to live what is fundamental to being a Christian.
From personal experience, we can tell you that Cursillo is a Gift from the Holy Spirit, precious to all that receive it. This "gift" includes three full days and evenings of talks, prayer, meditations, Christian fellowship, good food and a bit of fun, too! The kind of community that you will live on the weekend gives a vision and experience of human love and charity that is centered on the Eucharist. Some of your friends may have taken the course.
As with any course, there is an entrance application to complete: your sponsor, who is a cursillista, can help you prepare for the weekend. There are no tests and only one piece of "homework": to live your life to it's fullest as a Catholic Christian.
To know God, you must first know yourself! To know "you," bring an open mind to discovery and an open heart to hear the message presented. Once we know ourselves and know our faith as a living "gift" from God, we can live our life fully.
Cursillo offers you the opportunity to get to know "some One" who has been with you all your life.
