DIOCESAN & PARISH POLICY
The Diocese of Phoenix and St Bernadette Roman Catholic Parish are committed to protecting and providing a safe environment for all children, young people, and vulnerable adults. The Diocesan Policy and procedures for the Protection of Minors requires all volunteers to attend Safe Environment Training (SET).
Before serving as a minister for the first time, all volunteers must attend an initial foundation SET class. Subsequent to taking the initial class, depending on the ministry you are a member of and whether you directly serve minors or vulnerable adults, you are required to take an online renewal SET class either on an annual or every other year basis. The online renewal class takes approximately 30 minutes to complete.
The initial foundation SET class, titled Protecting God’s Children for Adult’s is a 3-hour class. A volunteer can take the class at any parish in the Phoenix area. You register for Protecting Gods Children for Adults on the Diocese of Phoenix website. Here is the Diocesan link to “Register for Classes:” http://www.safeenvironmenttraining.org/classes.php. Scroll down the page until you find the “Class,” “Start Date,” and “Parish” that works for you. Look to the far right for that class and you will find “Register Here!” Click on it and follow the prompts.
In addition to taking the initial foundation SET class, each new volunteer is required to complete and sign a “Volunteer Application” and “Code of Ethics.” Here is a link to a Diocesan “Volunteer Application – Code of Ethics Booklet.” Please print out, complete, and sign both forms. Turn them in at the Parish Office where the forms will be stored in the Parish locked Safe Environment file cabinet.
