Liturgical Ministries
Altar Linens Daily use of hand towels, purificators and corporals for Eucharistic Celebrations, creates a constant need for clean linens. Participation in this ministry enables you to be a part of the "liturgy", meaning "the work of the people." Donna Burns 602-577-4326
Altar Servers Altar Servers take responsibility for freeing the presider from various details so he may give full attention to presiding. They assist with the book of prayers (Sacramentary), and help at the altar taking care of the candles, cross, and incense with reverence. This ministry is open to youth members who have received all of the Sacraments of Iniitation (Baptism, Confirmation & First Communion). Dore Sand 602-485-0169
Art & Environment This ministry creates the seasonal liturgical atmosphere in the Parish Center and works with the Liturgical Ministry in creating the most prayerful environment possible for enriching our spiritual journey. This ministry coordinates changes to the environment of our worship space to reflect the Church's liturgical cycle, Holy Days, feasts and special celebrations. Sandy Meyers 480-585-9218
Children's Liturgy of the Word The Children's Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) is a liturgical experience offered during the 10:00 Sunday liturgy that is open to all children preschool age through the 3rd grade. This process is centered on special adapted readings from the Sunday liturgy that are designed to help children better understand the Word of God. After the opening prayer, the children are dismissed with trainer facilitators to their own worship space. During the Presentation of the Gifts, they return to their families. Extraordinary Eucharistic Ministers Ministers assist in the communion rite by sharing of the Lord's body and blood with others. Extraordinary Ministers have a reverence and dignity for the Eucharist. Our Diocese requires all Extraordinary Ministers to receive training and be certified in order to participate in this ministry. Al Homiski 602-617-2167
Greeters This is a ministry that welcomes and offers hospitality to all who are assembling for the liturgy. Greeters welcome parishioners as they enter the church and hand out music sheets and/or worship aids. This ministry is well suited to family participation. Tom Horst 602-953-1063
Lectors Lectors proclaim to God’s people Salvation History through the oral reading of Sacred Scripture. A lector needs to feel at home with the Scriptures, to love them, and to pray with them. Youth and teens may participate in this ministry through our Children’s and Life Teen Liturgies. David Riggs 602-996-6715

Prayers of the Faithful This ministry supports the liturgical life of the parish by writing the Prayers of the Faithful (communal petitions) for all of our Sunday, Holy Days and special Feast Day liturgical celebrations. Rosemary Simek 602-788-7960 or Mary Canida 602-996-9396
Sacristans Sacristans help support the flow of our liturgical celebrations by coordinating the liturgical ministers, ensuring the condition of the worship space and overseeing the preparation of vessels and the materials needed for both the presider and the assembly. They enable our liturgical celebrations to flow seamlessly and help ensure that the assembly is fully drawn into each Eucharistic celebration. Al Homiski 602-617-2167
Ushers Ushers welcome the community and are responsible for the care of the assembly. Their duties include facilitating the offertory and special collections, assuring that offertory gifts are brought forward, facilitating the assembly’s movement to communion, distributing bulletins, taking care of medical emergencies and seeing to the individual needs of the faithful. Hospitality Ministries
Hospitality Committee Volunteers in this ministry help provide hospitality for a variety of parish activities and liturgical celebrations. The committee provides food and hospitality for our parish missions, special liturgical celebrations and communal celebrations such as First Communion/Confirmation and following the Easter Vigil. This committee functions as hospitality support to other parish groups and ministries. Shirley Smalley 480-473-8159
Social Committee Volunteers in this ministry help to plan, facilitate and oversee the social activities of the parish. These activities include family nights, the parish picnic, special events, entertainment and dinner celebrations. A variety of gifts and talents are needed and this ministry is open to family participation. Shirley Smalley 480-473-8159
Sunday Donut Committee Volunteers serve coffee, drinks and donuts after the Sunday morning masses. By providing these refreshments in the Ramada, parishioners have the opportunity to get to know one another and to build community. This is a great ministry for families to do together. Welcoming Committee for New Parishioners Volunteers in this ministry oversee all parish activities that are aimed at welcoming new parishioners. The committee personally invites all new members to a quarterly interactive information and get to know you meeting. Members of this committee also plan and oversee additional new member activities and receptions. This ministry provides volunteers with a unique opportunity to meet new people. Funeral Hospitality Free hospitality service to any family who has a funeral service at the Church. We can accommodate most situations. Many grieving families want a simple dessert with coffee or a luncheon/dinner for the family and friends. Natural Family Planning Modern Natural Family Planning is 100% natural and up to 99% effective as a family planning method. You wil learn how NFP beneftis a couple's relationship, one indicator of which is the nearly non-existent divorce rate among NFP-practicing couples. The diocese has NFP instuctors available in a variety of methods.

Pastoral Ministers of Care This ministry is comprised of Extraordinary Eucharistic Ministers who visit, pray and bring Communion to the sick and dying. They visit people in their homes, in nursing homes, and at the Mayo Clinic Hospital.

Education & Formation Ministries
Religious Education for Children - Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Program St. Bernadette Parish offers Religious Education (RE) programs for elementary school-age children of our parish families. Our programs support the sacramental preparation process for Confirmation and Reconciliation/First Eucharist.The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program is an approach to the religious formation of children. Vacation Bible School For one week each summer, the parish offers a Vacation Bible School for preschool and elementary children. This catechetically-based week offers formation, fun and music for the children. Volunteer coordinators, catechechist, aides, and support personnel are needed.
Edge - Junior High Program The EDGE is a Catholic middle school youth ministry for younger teens in grades 6, 7 and 8. EDGE is designed to meet the educational, spiritual, emotional, and social needs of young adolescents. Audra Motiejunas, Youth Minister, 480-905-0221 EDGE program information.

Cursillo Cursillo is a three-day spiritual Christian renewal program that revives the spirit and refreshes the faith of participants. The course is designed to renew the Christian commitment and lead to deeper understanding of the teachings of Jesus Christ. Men's Bible Study This ministry provides men of our parish with a unique opportunity to study and discover the story of the Bible in the context of a small faith-based group. This program is designed to give the average Catholic a solid foundation for a lifetime of Bible reading. Study materials, discussions and personal relationships help to make the scriptures come alive in a deeply personal way.
Women's Bible Study This ministry is a deep study based on the Word and the interrelationships between Old and New Testaments. Participants learn about the greatness of the blessing of jesus Christ and his relief to all humankind. These scriptural pursuits are coupled with fun and deep lasting friendships. Retrouvaille Retrouvaille is a weekend experience designed to strengthen struggling marriages. This program is a place where hurting couples can find hope. Friday Night Healing Rosary Since July 2005, the Friday Night Healing Rosary group meets every Friday night at 6:30 PM in the Adoration Chapel to pray the rosary for those who are seriously ill, dying or recently deceased. The group is committed to meeting each and every Friday. Prayer requests may be written in the Book Of Healing in the Chapel. All are welcomed to join us in prayer.

Culture of Life Commission Promotes education, justice and political action to protect life in all of its stages – from the first moment of conception until its natural end.
La Sagrada Familia La Sagrada Familia is our sister parish in Mexicali, Mexico. St. Bernadette strives to make a difference for this parish community in need by providing financial assistance and support for students. By supporting education, we open doors and enable many of these young people to have a more prosperous and stable life. God has given us a task, a real calling to help his children. Society of St. Vincent de Paul The St. Bernadette Conference of the St. Vincent de Paul Society strives to live out gospel values through service and ministry to others. We take inbound request for aid and make house calls to local families to assess their needs and render aid. Boy Scouts Our Boy Scout Troop builds character, moral strength and personal fitness for the young men of our community through regular group meetings and outdoor activities. Our troop is a member of the Grand Canyon Council of the Boy Scouts of America. For ages 6th grade throug 17 years old. Dale Lewis 602-953-1519
Gently Aging This ministry is a social and supportive community for individuals who are “gently aging”, The goal of the group is to encourage fellowship, support and activity through regular gatherings, celebrations, activities and outings. Dona Lomio 480-991-6078
Knights of Columbus The Knights of Columbus are a national Catholic men’s fraternal charitable organization committed to helping with various parish activities and charitable works. Knights’ fundraising activities include a monthly pancake breakfast, annual win-tasting dinner, annual golf tournament, Oktoberfest dinner event and a Tootsie Roll Drive. Ken McDonald 480-483-7822

Building Committee This ministry solicits parishioner input in order to assist the pastor with the design, plan and coordination of construction of parish community facilities under the guidelines of the Diocese. Marty Simmons 602-616-0157
Finance Council The Finance Council, in conjunction with the Pastor and Parish Council, oversees the parish’s annual budget and, monitors parish banking and accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance under the guidelines of the Diocese. Pat Hoernig 602-482-0960
Parish Council This ministry is a advisory, leadership group of elected parishioners who provide wisdom and discernment to our pastor. This Council represents the needs and views of the members of the faith community. Michael Cordier 602-282-0508
Parish Office Support Volunteers in this ministry assist in the parish office during office hours to answer telephone calls, greet and assist visitors, and perform administrative and clerical tasks. Gary Vycital 480-905-0221 ext. 211
Volunteer Office This office functions to facilitate the life of the parish and the needs of its volunteers. This ministry solicits, trains and places volunteers within the life of the faith community and it ministries. It ensures that all volunteers are Called to Protect trained and screened and that parish ministries, activities and events are supported. Annual Parish Events
- Dinner Auction
This dinner is our parish's largest annual fundraising event that helps raise money to reduce parish debt, make capital improvements, and/or to build new facilities. Volunteers help create a community building event that is festive while at the same time raising needed funds. Parishioners are encouraged to contribute to this event by assisting with the various committee activities and/or attending the event. Rachel Collins
- Annual Parish Picnic
This family day offers fun, food and community to all parishioners of St. Bernadette and families of students at Blessed Pope John XXIII school. The picnic is held in the early Spring each year and includes games, prizes, fellowship and wonderful.
